To ensure the best possible doctoral supervision, the Graduate Research School, in collaboration with all the doctoral schools, has joined the national and European movement to train supervisors.

In 2018, it was suggested that awareness training should be provided “on the different facets of doctoral supervision”, and this has gradually developed since then. This training became compulsory for all future supervisors applying for the HDR qualification, who must now include proof that they have followed this training course in their HDR application. Given the scale of demand, 3 sessions of the training course are organized over the year.

The program is based on the foundations of quality supervision and possible areas of improvement via discussions and individual or group thinking. The course is run in part by an external trainer, an expert in management with knowledge of the world of research. The Graduate Research School and the doctoral schools then present the environment of doctoral studies at the University of Bordeaux. As in the case of PhD student training courses, each session is assessed by the participants.

2021 Calendar : - 1° session from 8 to 11 March ( by video conference)- 2° session from 3 to 5 May - 3° session from 4 to 7 October.
