Conditions of entry

In order to apply for a doctorate, you must hold a French Masters degree or other diploma awarding the equivalent of a Masters, after a training program establishing your ability to carry out research. If this condition is not met, the head of the institution may allow an exemption based on a proposal by the doctoral school council, and accept:

  • students who have completed studies at an equivalent level abroad,
  • students who have a validation of learning from experience (VAE).

Research project

You should already have defined your research project in one of the specialty fields offered by the doctoral school.We recommend that you consult the websites of the research units attached to the doctoral school.

Thesis supervisor

The PhD student is under the responsibility of a thesis supervisor who holds an HDR (authorization to supervise research) or an ADT (authorization to supervise a thesis). The scientific supervision of the PhD project may be shared with a joint supervisor.

Research units can help applicants to identify a member of the doctoral school who is authorized to supervise research and able to oversee a thesis in their disciplinary field and their specialty.
